Does Airbnb pay my county tourist tax?

Sometimes. Airbnb collects a tax only where it has decided to, and it publishes a help page per state listing exactly where. If your county or city is not on that page, assume the filing is yours.

Where it pays, and where it doesn't

• Florida: Airbnb collects the state 6% and surtax everywhere, but county tourist tax in only some counties. It does not collect in Walton, Bay, Okaloosa, Monroe, Osceola or St. Johns, among others (Airbnb Help 2301).
• Colorado: Airbnb collects Breckenridge and Steamboat taxes, but Aspen says Airbnb does not remit its city taxes.
• California: in Big Bear Lake Airbnb collects the 10% TOT but not the 3% TBID.

1. Download last month's Airbnb earnings CSV and look at the tax lines.
2. Match each line to state, county and city.
3. Compare with Airbnb's help page for your state, then the county's own tax page.
4. When they disagree, email the county with your address and keep the reply.

Vrbo and direct bookings are separate questions: a county Airbnb covers may still expect you to file for those.

Does Airbnb collect county tourist tax in Florida?

Only in the counties listed on Airbnb Help article 2301. Walton, Bay, Okaloosa, Monroe, Palm Beach, Manatee and many others are not listed, so hosts there file the county tax themselves.

Does Airbnb collecting the tax mean I don't need to register?

Not always. Essex County NY and Big Sky MT, for example, still expect the owner to register even though Airbnb remits on Airbnb bookings.

How do I prove what Airbnb paid?
