Does Airbnb pay Florida tourist tax? County by county (checked Oct 26, 2026)

Florida rentals carry three taxes: the state's 6% sales tax plus a county surtax (Florida DOR), the county Tourist Development Tax (TDT), and in some cities a local tax.

State tax: Airbnb and Vrbo both collect the state 6% and surtax statewide (Airbnb Help 2301; Vrbo Help "U.S. F–M").

County TDT: Airbnb collects it only in the counties listed on Help 2301: 22 self-administered counties plus Surfside, and 21 small counties whose TDT the state administers. Vrbo's list is similar but not identical (it adds Highlands from Oct 1, 2026, and doesn't list Clay, Putnam or Taylor).

Not on either list: Walton, Bay, Okaloosa. All three counties say so themselves:

• Walton Clerk: "NOT contracted with ANY platform including [Airbnb, HomeAway, Vrbo]."
• Bay Tax Collector FAQ: "Does Airbnb/VRBO remit the 5% TDT for me? The short answer is no." The 1% Airbnb shows for Bay is the state surtax.
• Okaloosa Clerk: "NOT contracted with ANY platform."

What to do: register in your county's GovOS portal, then file monthly by the 20th, including $0 months. Bay and Okaloosa add a $50 minimum penalty for late returns, so a late $0 return still costs $50.
