Does Airbnb pay my county's lodging tax? How to check in 3 minutes

Many hosts assume Airbnb handles every tax. It handles some. Here's how to know for sure.
1. Open your earnings report. In Airbnb, go to Earnings → transaction history and download the CSV for last month. Look for tax lines on each reservation. Airbnb shows the taxes it collected and paid on your behalf.
2. Match each tax to your jurisdictions. Your address may face a state tax, a county tax and a city tax. If you see only the state line, the county one may be your job. Example: in Oregon, Airbnb collects the state 1.5% lodging tax, but Clackamas County is not on its list of Oregon jurisdictions where it collects local tax, so Mt Hood hosts outside city limits file the county's 6% themselves.
3. Check Airbnb's own list. Airbnb publishes per-state help pages listing where it collects. If your county isn't on it, assume you file.
4. Check the county. Search "[your county] transient lodging tax" or "TOT" and read the official page. Some counties say Airbnb remits but your payouts show nothing. When they disagree, email the county's tax office with your address and ask whether they received remittances for it. Keep the reply.
5. Remember other platforms. Vrbo and direct bookings are often handled differently from Airbnb.
What $0 means: if the county tax line is missing, you're probably the one who owes it, often monthly or quarterly, often even in empty months. If you're behind, filing late usually costs less than waiting.
